The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) approach can be viewed from different perspectives. This includes addressing wide-ranging issues from emissions reduction, to corporate investments, to being a financial mechanism for clean environment, to technological transfer and even development assistance to national governments through its contribution to the adaptation fund. This study focuses mainly on CDM as a model for leveraging financial capital/investment for clean and sustainable development for low income countries, as per the main objective of the mechanism as outlined in the Kyoto Protocol.
