This book presents the features of manufactured sand (MS) and its application in concrete as the fine aggregate. It first introduces the production and technical properties of manufactured sand and demonstrates the properties of concrete, followed by the mix proportioning of concrete with manufactured sand. It also focuses on the applications of manufactured sand in several practical engineering projects using self-compacting concrete (SCC), rubble-filled SCC, and high-performance concrete with manufactured sand for special purposes. It also focuses on the applications of manufactured sand in several practical engineering projects using self-compacting concrete (SCC), rubble-filled SCC, and high-performance concrete with manufactured sand for special purposes. This book is useful and attractive to a wide readership in the field of materials science, civil engineering, and related fields.
Zhengwu Jiang obtained his doctorate from Tongji University, China, in 2002. He spent one year at the British Columbia University as a visiting scholar, from 2007 to 2008. He was also a senior visiting scholar of University of California, Berkeley. He has been at Tongji University as a professor of materials science and engineering since 2010. He has been the director of Key Laboratory of Advanced Civil Engineering Materials of Ministry of Education (Tongji University) since 2019 and the vice dean of School of Materials Science Engineering, Tongji University, since 2020. He is also the chairman of the Technical Committee of Basic Theory and Application of Concrete (Chinese Architectural Society), the vice chairman of the Cement Brach of Chinese Ceramic Society, the vice chairman of the Solid Waste Utilization and Environmental Materials Branch of the Chinese Ceramic Society, the vice chairman of the National Institute of Advanced Building Materials, the editor in chief of Journal of Building Materials, etc. He has published more than 400 academic papers, cited by others for more than 4,000 times, and holds more than 60 authorized national invention patents. Among his current interests are the characterization of manufactured sand and its application in concrete as the fine aggregate, the sustainable cement-based materials, self-healing of cement-based materials, and the properties of concrete under extreme environment.
