Green manuring is based on the methodology of using plants in rotation or intercropping with crops of economic interest, such as agricultural and forestry crops. These plants can be incorporated into the soil or grazed and kept on the surface, covering it and generally providing a major improvement in the physical, chemical and biological attributes of the soil. In view of this, many farmers and rural professionals have studied and suggested the adoption of cultural practices that favor biological processes (biological nitrogen fixation, nutrient cycling, among others) and thus, the plants of the legume family (or Fabaceae) stand out for presenting numerous advantageous characteristics to the soil-plant system.
