This book provides the Greek text of the Epistula canonica by Gregory of Nyssa. It is a critical edition based on the examination of ca. 150 manuscripts. The preface analyzes the transmission of the text in great detail. Gregory's canonical letter has been part of the canonical letters of the Fathers from the beginning of such collections. The example of a single letter within these collections gives an important insight into the nomocanon-tradition. Gregory's letter is of great interest. It is the only canonical writing presenting a theoretical basis for the canonical penalties determining the times of exclusion from the congregation's worship and the gradual return of the penitens to full communion. *** Das Buch enthAlt den griechischen Text der Epistula canonica Gregors von Nyssa. Gregors kanonischer Brief war von Anfang an in die Sammlung der kanonischen VAterbriefe einbezogen. Anhand eines einzigen Briefes ergeben sich bedeutsame Einsichten in die Aoeberlieferung des "Nomokanons." Gregors Brief ist hochinteressant. Er ist die einzige kanonische Schrift, die eine theoretische Basis fA1/4r die BuAstufen ausarbeitet. BuAstrafen sind Zeiten des Ausschlusses aus dem Gemeindegottesdienst und die stufenweise Reintegration der BA1/4Aer zu voller Gemeinschaft.

Ekkehard Mühlenberg is Professor of Church History Emeritus (University of Göttingen). He has published in patristics and edited Oratio catechetica by Gregory of Nyssa. He directs a research institute of the Patristische Kommission at the Göttingen Academy of Sciences. *** Ekkehard Mühlenberg ist Professor emeritus für Kirchengeschichte (Universität Göttingen). Er hat in Patristik publiziert und Oratio catechetica Gregors von Nyssa ediert. Er leitet die Arbeitsstelle der Patristischen Kommission an der Göttinger Akademie der Wissenschaften.
