We all love tales of gigantic and ferocious mysterious beings who are out there to devour a helpless damsel who is then rescued by a knight in shining amour. We love hearing about jealous and heartless stepmothers who hatch plans of getting rid of their stepchildren but fortunately, the plan doesn¿t always work. Tales of Prince¿s marrying peasant¿s daughters instead of princesses are also a common fascination to most of us. The Grimm brothers used their literary skills to write a collection of many short stories that have found their way into our hearts and captivated our imagination. The use of a simple language that is easily understood by children and the similar themes in most stories are also fascinating. The author¿s works show us how good always prevails over evil no matter what, though at times not in the way we would have imagined. There is always a twist in each story portraying the antagonist as the victor but as we read on the protagonist takes his sweet victory after a lot of suffering Come to think of it, we never get used to fairy tales. We inevitably find ourselves going back to reading them over the years over and over again. The reason is simply that in every individual, there is a deep-rooted childlike part that has always believed in fairy tales. Even as adults in our subconscious, we carry tales as read to us by our parents when growing up. Grimm brothers have managed to tap into our childhood memories through the Grimm¿s fairy tale collection. Jacob Ludwig Karl Grimm was a German philologist, jurist, and mythologist. Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm were born in the late 18th century in Hanau, Germany. They faced hardship early in life when their father passed away, forcing them to take responsibility for their family. Both brothers pursued law at the University of Marburg, where they developed a passion for German folklore, sparking their lifelong dedication to preserving oral traditions.The Grimms gained recognition through their Children's and Household Tales, first published in 1812, which became one of the most influential collections of folk tales. They saw these stories as reflections of Germany's national identity. The brothers meticulously revised and expanded their collection, while also pursuing research in linguistics and Germanic philology, contributing significantly to folklore studies.In their later years, the brothers worked on their monumental German Dictionary, though neither lived to complete it. Wilhelm died in 1859, followed by Jakob in 1863. Their legacy endures, with their tales translated into numerous languages and adapted into countless cultural works, preserving their influence in literature and storytelling worldwide.
