Jules Horowitz is a stand-up comedian and the author of Grouchy Gloria and the Cloud, a story about a moody little girl who is followed by a literal cloud everywhere she goes. His passion for storytelling and his previous work with neurodiverse populations inspired him to create this series. As a teenager, he volunteered at Camp Via West in northern California, a non-profit organization that supports children and adults with developmental disabilities. His sister (who has autism) attended camp there for many years throughout her youth. Jules received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University. After graduating, he continued working with children with autism on an individual basis as well as a substitute teacher's aide for The League School in Brooklyn, New York. Wanting to expand his work in the arts, Jules earned his MFA degree in Screenwriting from USC School of Cinematic Arts. Since then, he has written, produced and acted in an award-winning short film, Plenty of Fish, and supported thought-provoking documentaries like A Crime on the Bayou. Recently, he has combined his love of writing and passion for mental health by creating the children's book series Grouchy Gloria. The books have a fun rhyming scheme that keeps kids engaged. At the same time, they have important messages regarding mental health like learning to work with your problems instead of avoiding them and not taking your anger out on others. As the book series continues to develop, Jules hopes to find more creative ways to help young kids develop strong mental health habits with amusing stories.
