The Himalayas are home to a great diversity of fauna as well as flora, making the region one of the richest biodiversity hotspots of the world. Inaccessibilty and security concerns limited the focus of science on the species of Himalayas. The book Habitat utilization by Asiatic black bear-a study in Dachigam national park, India is an attempt made to find out the rate of habitat use by Asiatic black bear among available habitats during spring. The standard methods such as line transects for habitat use pattern and quadrat sampling for vegetation classification are used. The utilization measured on the basis of direct and indirect evidences. The book comes out with the identification of six available habitats and among them lower temperate habitat as the preferred habitat. It suggests better management of the ecosystem for the healthy population of Asiatic black bear in the park to resolve conflict with humans.
