During a time when soccer was still in its infancy in the United States, the players must try to turn around a losing college program and, in the process, come to grips with the realities of friendship and love.

Stephen James Poppoon is a graduate of Wittenberg University and Syracuse University College of Law. A longtime soccer player and fan, he has been an active proponent of the sport as great exercise for children and adults. He resides in San Antonio, Texas, where he finances and develops multifamily properties. First published in August 2012, "Hail to the Chiefs," is a novel about five outstanding high school soccer players who have enrolled at Bainbridge University, where football is everything and soccer has only just become a varsity sport.
