Halloween Stew is Jane's first published children's book. Originally it was written for her five grandchildren who enjoyed it so much that they wanted copies for their friends. That original book provided the kernel for Mean-Witch-Me to expand her Halloween Stew story. Needing an illustrator she knew she wanted her friend Cecilia Blomberg, a renowned tapestry artist, to capture the story. With Cecilia's whimsical touch the story developed even more. Mean-Witch-Me's problems developed as a result of her own determination to be alone and avoid sharing her special stew with any forest creature or ghost. Since the story includes a delightful and yucky recipe for Halloween Stew, Jane worked to devise a recipe for a delicious stew that is such fun to make with healthy, yet yucky, ingredients. She and Cecilia hope that the recipe becomes a tradition for families as they reread the book Halloween Stew each October.
