'Esbaat' (Editor: Ashar Najmi, Mumbai, Issue No.14-15, 2013) has organized a written dialogue on the occasion of a Saadat Hasan Manto century. Questionnaires were sent to Shamsur Rahman Faruqi, Intizar Hussain, Moinuddin Jeenabade, Sikandar Ahmad, Siddique Alam, Ali Akbar Natiq and Ameer Hamza Saqib. Ashar Najmi deliberately formulated some questions that would make the participants uncomfortable, make them think and agree to engage in dialogue on Manto in a new way. Shamsur Rahman Faruqi, who had previously mentioned Manto in his articles, but no formal writings on it had been seen so far, wrote a booklet in response to Ashar Najmi's question. This long essay by Faruqi is a masterpiece on Manto. Until now, most of the critics of Manto had piled up the usual impressionistic criticism, on the contrary, Faruqi not only recovered Manto with his specific style of reasoning, but he also composed the poetics of fiction regarding Manto.
