This handbook allows to explain in simple terms the common ocular conditions that face children in developing countries and the possible challenges that parents/guardians should look out for during the period of care and over the long term. Due to the busy nature of outpatient clinics, it is mostly impossible for the pediatric ophthalmologists to explain in detail these important things. This book can therefore be used to train these counsellors to effectively pass on the message of the details of the diagnosis given by the attending paediatric ophthalmologist to the parents of the child. This will go a long way to improve follow-up and compliance with suggested surgery/treatment regimen which is the major bane of ophthalmic care in developing countries. This book can also be used by medical students, junior residents, ophthalmic nurses and nursing students as well as medical officers practicing in the developing world to further improve their understanding of the subject of pediatric ophthalmology.
