'Dr. Ben-Shahar, one of the most popular teachers in Harvard's recent history, has written a personal, informed, and highly enjoyable primer on how to become happier. It would be wise to take his advice.
--Ellen J. Langer, author of Mindfulness and On Becoming an Artist

This fine book shimmers with a rare brand of good sense that is imbedded in scientific knowledge about how to increase happiness. It is easy to see how this is the backbone of the most popular course at Harvard today.
--Martin E. P. Seligman, author of Authentic Happiness

WHAT IS HAPPINESS?

It is the ultimate currency, more valuable than money, fame, or success. It is also the subject of one of the most thought-provoking--and potentially life-changing--books you will ever read.

Can happiness be learned, pursued, and achieved?

Yes, according to Tal Ben-Shahar, Ph.D. The acclaimed psychologist teaches a course in happiness at Harvard University, which has proven to be the school's most popular class in history.

Are there things I can do to make myself happier?

Yes, you can get your life back on track by learning secrets from positive psychology, a new approach to happiness that is changing the way people work, play, live, and love. Ben-Shahar takes an ingenious combination of scientific studies, scholarly research, self-help advice, and spiritual enlightenment and shows you how to apply these principles to your daily life. Once you open your heart and mind to Happier's thoughts, you will feel more fulfilled, more connected . . . and, yes, happier.

If you're a 'rat racer,' who sacrifices your happiness by living a miserable day-to-day existence devoid of pleasure in hopes of being happy (financially secure) some day in the future . . .

If you're a 'hedonist,' who finds instant (and fleeting) pleasure in the good things in life: good wine, good food, good company, without a thought about what could happen tomorrow . . .

If you're a 'nihilist,' who's given up on finding happiness now, later (or ever) . . .

. . . you can learn to be HAPPIER--now, today and tomorrow.

Happiness: It's what we want, what we desire, and what we're all looking for. From ancient philosophers and poets to modern-day psychologists and spiritual leaders, the world's greatest minds have attempted to define--and attain--true happiness. But is it really possible to define it and, more important, find and keep true happiness?

Yes, it is. This life-changing new book from Harvard University's acclaimed teacher and lecturer Tal Ben-Shahar tackles the subject from a wide range of vantage points--old and new, practical and idealist, spiritual, psychological, and intellectual. It is intended to help you understand the nature of happiness itself. But more than that, it is intended to help you become happier. You can incorporate Ben-Shahar's easy strategies and become happier right now.

Think of Happier as your own personal workbook. As you read each chapter's illuminating discussion on happiness--inspired by the combination of timeless wisdom, cutting-edge research, and good old common sense that embodies the positive psychology movement--you will see every aspect of your life with new eyes and a new sense of purpose.

The trick is learning how to live for today and for tomorrow, at the same time. Once you learn how to balance your immediate personal needs with more practical, long-term goals, you'll be able to enjoy life as you never have before. It's nothing less than the secret of happiness--revealed at last in one ready-to-use, day-by-day guide. Just read it, process it, and do something about it. You alone have the power--to enjoy journey and the destination, to fulfill your potential, and to live your life to the fullest.
