The future for Teresa, an intelligent, hard-working and God-fearing African village teen appears to be promising when she excels in her primary school's final national examination and gets admitted to one of the best secondary schools in the country at the turn of the century. However, the adolescent's very survival is threatened when her aunt, the only guardian she has, gets involved in a life-threatening motor vehicle accident as she returns home after escorting her to her new boarding school. Among the contemporary issues tackled in this engaging story of hope and survival are hypocrisy, betrayal, poverty, witchcraft, drug abuse, sexually-transmitted diseases, violence, prostitution, lesbianism, rape, lack of trust and commitment in relationships and how cunning women use their physical beauty, sex appeal and feminine wiles to get what they want from our male-dominated world.
