He grew it to a subscription of 20,000 in a few months and continued to publish it till about 1939. He used his cartooning skills to do almost all the illustrations and advertisements in the magazine. Perhaps after his hair went gray, he was known as the "Sage of Garland." He continued to write newspaper columns till his death in 1964.
