This book includes a brief knowledge of the various health behavior models and theories. Behavioral scientists have devoted considerable effort to developing and evaluating models and theories which are designed to understand and/or influence health behavior. These health behavior models and theories help to explain why individuals and communities behave the way they do. Planners can use these models and theories to extend the effectiveness of their program design, implementation, and evaluation. It's useful to remember that different models may be appropriate in different situations. The guiding principles found in health behavior models provide useful methods to oral health care providers in promoting effective individual oral health behaviors. Research regarding health behavior has explored the effectiveness and applicability of various health models in oral health behavior modification.
