Autorenporträt
Sal Volpe MD, FAAP, FACP, ABP-CI, FHIMSS, CHCQM has achieved board certification in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Clinical Informatics and he currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer working closely with the IT staff at the Staten Island Performing Provider System (SI PPS). The SI PPS is an alliance of clinical and social service providers focused on improving the quality of care and overall health for Staten Island's Medicaid and uninsured populations, which include more than 180,000 Staten Island residents and was the highest performing group under the New York State Department of Health's Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) program. His practice was the first solo practice in the United States to achieve Level 3 2011 NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home Recognition. In addition to running a solo primary care practice for 30 years, Dr. Volpe has had many leadership roles outside the office. He served as physician champion for the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Primary Care Information Project (NYC DOH MH PCIP); President of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society New York State (HIMSS NYS), President of the Richmond County Medical Society (RCMS); Chairman of the HIT Committee for the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) and Richmond County; member of the Board of Directors of the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) and member of the board of the Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company. Learning from others and sharing this knowledge has been another important aspect of his professional career. He has been invited to speak on health and technology topics locally and nationally. In addition to contributing to numerous journals, Dr. Volpe was a contributor for the PCMH chapter for the second and third editions of Medical Informatics: An Executive Primer. Dr. Volpe and his practice have been recognized by many organizations. For work with the Geriatric population and informatics, they were presented the Island Peer Review Organization (IPRO) Quality Award and SUNY Downstate Medical School Geriatrics Medicine Award. Their focus on PCMH was acknowledged by the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC) with the Patient-Centered Medical Home Practice (PCMH) Award. Due to the innovations introduced by Dr. Volpe and his executive board at HIMSS NYS, he was honored with the Chapter Leader of the Year Award. Dr. Volpe received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, his medical degree from SUNY Downstate and completed a combined Pediatrics and Internal Medicine Residency at Staten University Hospital (now a member of the NorthWell Health Network).
