Phyo qualified in 1995 from the Institute of Medicine (I),Yangon, Myanmar (formerly Burma) and started postgraduate medical training the UK in 1997. He was trained Clinical Epidemiology in Cambridge and Norwich, completed higher medical specialist training in March 2008 with accreditations in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.
