This collection of poems is inspired by a man desiring to redirect his heart towards God. While alluding to adulthood's different phases, these poems seek to expose the perils of folly and honor the value of wisdom. It is an assortment of personal realizations, expressions of love, and tributes to people who have personally impacted the writer. The title, Heart of Sword, Shield & Crown reflects a man's call to spiritual arms. It symbolizes the multiple parts of the male persona when bearing traits analogous with those of kings, warriors, lovers, and friends, while equally highlighting the inverse effects of each component of masculinity. Woven throughout the pages is a thread that ties together the idea that manhood is reflected in multiple qualities and is overarched by a Christian worldview.

Autorenporträt
Malcolm Mitchell is the husband of Kelly Mitchell and the father of two early teenage boys, Maxwell, and Miles. He is a follower of Jesus, an Elementary School Literacy Teacher, and has freelanced as a youth curriculum developer and writer. He is native to and currently resides in Southern California, though he has lived in, or dwelled among each of the major cities along the west coast of the US. His passion for self-expression through writing developed early in life and has been honed into poetry since the early 2000s. His hobbies include bike rides at the beach, summer youth camp counseling, writing, performing spoken word at local community venues, and facilitating what he calls SWAP sessions. This is the interplay between the shared, artistic expressions of singers, writers, actors, and poets and the formation of faith, goodwill, and community building.
