Irina Zakirova is adjunct assistant professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. She earned a PhD in legal studies-with a focus on compensation for damages-and has worked as a writer in several newspapers and magazines in her native country of Uzbekistan. She was a lecturer and taught legal studies at the Academy of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
