Samples of water, sediments and dominant species of aquatic plants (submerged (Ceratophyllum demersum) and merged (Phragmites australis, Typha domingensis and Schoenoplectus litoralis)) from four stations which selected at Al- Chibayish marsh in Thi-Qar province, southern Iraq, were collected seasonally from Augst, 2017 to April, 2018, to determine the concentration of some heavy elements Cadmium(Cd), Chromium(Cr), Nickel(Ni) and Lead(Pb) in dissolved and particulate phases of water, and in the sediments (exchangeable and residual phase). Heavy elements pollution index (HPI), Geoaccumulation index (Igeo) indices and Bioaccumulation factor (BAF) were calculated as indicators for heavy elements pollution in water, sediments and aquatic plants respectively. Also, the present study included determine the concentration and origin of hydrocarbons in water, sediments and aquatic plants in Al-Chibayish marsh.
