Like most urban lakes in sub-Saharan Africa, the Ebolowa Municipal Lake is subject to heavy metal pollution, which impacts not only biodiversity but also water quality. The results presented in this book highlight the lack of a proper lake management policy and, consequently, the urgency of taking action. The levels of contamination require rehabilitation strategies adapted to the local context. Among the proposed solutions, the implementation of decontamination techniques, raising public awareness, strict regulation of polluting activities and taking into account all stakeholders and environmental, social and economic considerations in the implementation of a lake management plan appear to be essential priorities.
