Vivian French is a highly acclaimed children's author who has written more than 250 books during the course of her career, including Caterpillar, Butterfly, the Tiara Club and The Tales from the Five Kingdoms series and Yucky Worms. Her recent work includes the critically acclaimed picture book The Most Wonderful Thing in the World and junior fiction The Adventures of Alfie Onion, The Cherry Pie Princess and Tom & Tallulah and the Witches' Feast. Vivian teaches on the illustration course at Edinburgh School of Art, and helped to found the mentoring scheme Picture Hooks for aspiring young illustrators. She lives in Edinburgh. She studied Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art where, for her final degree show, she created what would go on to be her debut picture book, Augustus and His Smile. She is winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal and Booktrust's Best New Illustrator Award, and, in 2010, was the inaugural illustrator in residence at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. As well as producing award-winning picture books, Catherine also exhibits her artwork in galleries all over the world and illustrates her own range of greeting cards.
