Tuberculosis (TB), is one of the oldest known diseases and still a major cause of mortality today, has many manifestations affecting the bone, the central nervous system and many other organ systems, but it is primarily a pulmonary disease. It is caused by a closely-related group of organisms, all of which form the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. These organisms include M. tuberculosis, M. bovis, M. africanum, M. microfti and M. Canetti.
