A hemothorax is an effusion of blood into the pleural cavity, while a closed chest trauma (CCT) is the result of an impact, regardless of its location, without the chest wall being broken. Road traffic accidents are responsible for 70% of thoracic injuries, and 25% of immediate deaths. CT is the reference examination for lesion diagnosis. We initiated this study to determine the extent of traumatic hemothorax and to evaluate diagnostic strategies for this pathology. This was a prospective, descriptive study running from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020, which took place in the thoracic surgery department of Mali Hospital during the period. It involved patients of all ages, regardless of sex, admitted to our department for hemothorax secondary to closed chest trauma.
