This book, published in conjunction with the Henry Moore Foundation and the Kunsthalle Mannheim coincides with an exhibition that opens in Nantes in April and in Mannheim in September 1996. It examines Moore's ideas for all types of sculpture that he worked on himself. As he did not physically cast them himself, the book contains none of the artist's bronzes, yet it fully documents his plasters.
The main text of the book is Manfred Fath's analysis of Moore in the context of 20th-century sculpture. The extensive biographical notes are written by Celia Hodart and illustrated with 24 documentary photographs.
The illustrations of 120 works included are accompanied by extended captions, written by Julie Summers and David Mitchinson.
