The brutal murder of Saltanat Nukenova by her husband, Kuandyk Bishimbayev, former Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan, sparked international outrage, especially in the post-Soviet region. Responses poured in on YouTube, with comments like Ukraine stands for Saltanat, Russia stands with you, and The whole world is watching and praying. Saltanat's death catalyzed a landmark law in Kazakhstan, criminalizing domestic violence, which was an unprecedented move in the post-Soviet space. Yet, domestic violence and rape remain rampant across these countries, including my native Russia. It's a grim reality that demands action. This book is a collection of stories giving voice to women who have been brutally silenced by a patriarchal and corrupt system, shedding light on their struggle. What if our voices could disrupt this cycle of oppression? How long will we wait, and how far are we willing to go for change?

Autorenporträt
Born in the early 2000s in Russia's Povolzhie region, I experienced a country transitioning from Soviet relics to modernity. Moving to Moscow exposed me to the contrasts of a bustling metropolis, while stories of women surrounded me, including those told by my grandmother during our daily calls and insights from my mother, who wrote her thesis on women's positions in 19th-century Russia. Her work inspired me to explore women's lives and struggles further. Now studying in Germany, I focus on comparing the position of women in the West with those in post-Soviet countries. This collection of stories is both a tribute to women silenced by patriarchal systems and a call to action for change, driven by the belief that amplifying these voices can lead to meaningful progress.
