Produktbeschreibung
This book presents the value of indigenous knowledge (IK) inspired traditional herbal remedies as alternative community medicine for human health and well-being in Ugandan local communities. The purpose of the preliminary study was to examine the effectiveness of the local herbs in treating sickle cell, and diabetes hemorrhoids in different local communities in the country. The study employed a cross-sectional design with a focus on both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Tentative (Initial) findings indicated that some traditional herbal concoctions (cocktails) proved to be very effective in relieving serious local health cases like sickle cell, and diabetes hemorrhoids as confirmed by medical examinations afterward. Herbal traditional medicines can be used as alternative community medicine for treating community diseases that affect most people in the country. There is an urgent need for collaborative research finding between; scientists and herbalists in the country. There is a need to raise and document awareness of the role of indigenous knowledge in promoting community medicine in Uganda and the rest of the African states.
