Cattle, among all livestock species, serve as a nucleus in the nation's overall development in the agriculture sector. The introduction of exotic germplasm, adequate health facilities, and management techniques has brought an immense growth in the dairy industry. New scientific feeding and supplementation of herbal agents have significantly contributed to the health and in potentiating milk production in dairy animals. Ayurveda has listed various herbal plants although their inclusion in veterinary medicine has not been much evaluated. A bulk of literature have spoken about the isolation of active principles of herbs through in-vitro studies, thus their safety and efficacy as such remain a doubted issue because the theoretical concerns have not been proved in-vivo experience. This book provides an insight into the indigenous technical knowledge and use of plant derived substances in animal health care.
