Imani D. Asukile was born Dale Ellison Bennett in Brooksville, Florida, in Hernando County. He graduated from Hernando High School, earned his bachelor's degree from Morris Brown College and his master's degree from Clark Atlanta University, and has been employed at Pasco- Hernando Community College for the past 18 years. He is married to Angela Lewis and they have three children: Jared (15), Gared (15), and Salim (11).
