Eating disorders are coping mechanisms. For some, dissolution of their nuclear family drives them into disordered eating patterns, for others grief and loss, for still others violence enacted upon them as an individual. Our current treatments help people heal their emotional wounds from such events, cultivate new beliefs about themselves and the world, and create a new relationship with food and themselves. But these methods become less effective when the violence is enacted not on the individual, but on a group as a whole. Hidden in Plain Sight is written for you if you are struggling with their relationship with food but are unsure where to turn. Written by Christyna Johnson, an eating disorder dietician, public speaker, and podcast host, this book covers the common ways an eating disorder presents for Black folks, why popular therapies don't address the root of your eating problems, and how you can finally to heal.
