Joyce Sessoms has always known that helping people plays a major role in her purpose on earth. Her early professional life included serving as a social worker/advocate for battered women and an HIV/AIDS Case Manager. She later pursued her love for all things education and served for 10 years as a school counselor until her first retirement. Her accomplishments include an Associate in Applied Science, a Bachelor's in Behavioral Science, a Bachelor's in Biblical Studies, and a Masters in Education. Sensing an urgency to help students on a more individual basis, she and her husband, Furman, with God's guidance and instruction, founded The ARK Educational Resource Center After-School Tutoring Program. This non-profit has grown to provide not only one-on-one tutoring in math and reading for K-12 students, but mentoring groups for teen boys & teen girls, a parent group, and a sound engineering technology program.High School Grand Slam Student/Parent Edition is another way of reaching and providing help to students who may otherwise miss out on a productive education and fulfilling career. Mrs. Sessoms believes, as the late Marva Collins lived and taught, that, "There is a brilliant child locked inside every student."The Sessoms are the proud parents of three, grandparents of seven, and great-grandparents of six beautiful and intelligent blessings.
