The design of high speed with low power consumption has become one of the greatest challenges in high-performance VLSI design. The Multiply-Accumulate Unit (MAC) is the main computational kernel in DIP and DSP architectures. In this work, a fast and low power MAC Unit is proposed and the design is used for video animation. The proposed architecture is based on modified booth radix-8 with merged MAC architecture, here we attempt to increase the speed of multiplication by reducing number of partial products generated using high speed radix-8 algorithm and combine it with partial addition of partial products using truncation technique.
