The oxidation of alcohols into their corresponding carbonyl compounds is one of the most fundamental transformations in organic chemistry. Numerous alcohol oxidation methods have been developed such as transition metal-catalyzed, noncatalytic oxidizing reagents, and metal-free oxidants. But the current challenge of research work is developing chemoselective oxidation methods for alcohol oxidations is an important area of current research. The present work describes an overview of the chemoselective oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes, particularly emphasize the selective oxidation of copper catalyzed chemoselective oxidation of amino benzylic alcohols, phenolic hydroxy benzylic alcohols, and benzylic propargylic alcohols to respective carbonyl compounds.
