This book presents comprehensive experimental, numerical, and theoretical studies on the highway bridge under collision and explosion. Highway bridge is one of the significant civil infrastructures of public transportation, which plays an important role in the sustained and stable growth of the national economy. However, with the development of the transportation industry and bridge construction, the risks of accidental vehicle- and vessel-bridge collisions, as well as the explosion during the whole service life of the bridge are also increasing. Therefore, the damage assessment and protective design of the highway bridge have become the concerned topic in the field of bridge engineering in recent years. The book is intended for researchers and graduate students majoring in bridge engineering and protective engineering, as well as professional engineers working in the field of bridge design.
Dr. Hao Wu is Tenured Professor and Doctoral supervisor of Tongji University, China, and Member of the International Association of Protective Structures. He received his B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering from PLA University of Science and Technology, Nanjing, China, in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He has been engaged in the basic theory and engineering applications of protective structures under impact and explosion loadings. He focuses on the research of calculation theory and method of civil structures against projectile impact and explosion, ultra-high performance concrete and armor steel protective materials and structures, impact and blast resistance of nuclear power plant against large commercial aircrafts, impact and blast resistance of civil infrastructural structures, e.g., bridges and buildings, etc. He has published 6 monographs, 1 translation, and more than 190 academic papers, including 124 SCI-indexed papers. He has been awarded the second prize of the National Science & Technology Progress Award once, the first prize of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award twice, and the second prize of the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award five times. He presided over the National Natural Science Foundation of China and more than 30 engineering projects. Dr. Yuehua Cheng is Postdoctor of Tongji University, China. She received her B.E. and M.E. degrees in Civil Engineering from Hebei University of Technology, Tianjin, China, in 2016 and 2019, respectively. She received her Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Tongji University, Shanghai, China, in 2022. She has been engaged in the evaluation of damage effects and protection design of engineering structures. She focuses on the research of the mechanical behaviors of high-performance protective materials (armor steel and ultra-high performance concrete) and the design of critical protective structures. She has published more than 20 academic papers, including 16 SCI-indexed papers. She served as Reviewer of several international journals. She presided over the National Natural Science Foundation of China, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, and 3 projects of Key Laboratory. Dr. Liangliang Ma is Postdoctor of Tongji University. He received his B.E. degree in Civil Engineering from Chongqing University, Chongqing, China, in 2019, and the Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Tongji University, in 2023. He focuses on the research of blast resistance of engineering structures. His recent research interests include blast load and its propagation, mechanism of blast-induced damage, mitigation on blast effect, blast-resistant design and retrofitting measures of engineering structures, etc. He has published 18 academic papers, including 16 SCI-indexed papers. He served as Reviewer of several international journals.
