Hindko, also Hindku, or Hinko, is part of the Lahnda subgroup of Indo-Aryan languages spoken by Hindkowans in Pakistan and northern India, as well as by the Hindki people of Afghanistan. The Pashto word "Hindko" (which is a condensation of "hindaku") means "Indian", a term the Pashtun people gave to the people who migrated from "hind" which according to them was immediately east of the Indus River. The word Hindko has also been interpreted to mean the language of India.
