Connor Frederick is one of the unfortunates still on earth after the rapture. He realizes immediately what has happened and has had enough exposure to the Bible to accept Christ right then and there. He studies the Book of Revelation to get some idea about what is to happen and is appalled at what he must now go through. He visits the church where he occasionally went with his ex-wife and finds a large number of people like himself have shown up looking for answers. Since all Christians are now in Heaven, there is no one with enough knowledge to lead the flock. He shoulders the responsibility and finds that he is a very effective preacher, (though he is reluctant to call his talks sermons). The local people embrace his efforts and he becomes the de-facto leader of the group, which grows daily. When the two witnesses appear in Jerusalem he visits a counterpart there and the two have a conversation with the two witnesses who relate to them that they have been chosen by God to lead the remnant, which comes as a surprise to Connor, since he didn't know he even had any Jewish blood in his family tree. Events follow the sequence in Revelation and the number of believers increases dramatically under the tutelage of the two. Connor preaches a lot about the persecution that new believers will encounter during the tribulation, but emphasizes that even seven years of misery are worth the promise of eternal life with the Father. The action carries to the mid-point in the tribulation and chronicles just some of the things that will await those who have to accept their faith by hindsight.
