Dr. Kwon received her Ph.D.(2000) in history from UCLA, where she worked with Robert Brenner, John Duncan, Fred Notehelfer, and Herman Ooms. She also worked with Saito Osamu at Hitotsubashi University in Toyko, Japan. The focus of her reseach was in comparative economic development and the historical transition to capitalism.
