The problem we face in this research has several dimensions since, in the first place, although a few works have been carried out regarding the influence of Islam in Latin America, so it is not a completely unpublished branch of studies, most of them refer to the history of art and no work has ever been done linking the urbanism of a Mexican city with medieval Islamic urbanism.Secondly, the urbanistic analyses included in this work contain a specific methodology: firstly, the examination of bibliographic and archaeological sources, as well as the study of the city's roads, together with the incorporation of the observation of both ancient cartographies and the data provided by geographic information systems, which allows the study of the city to be integral and multimethodical, although it is more complex.

Diplôme d'histoire, maîtrise et doctorat en archéologie de l'UAM- Madrid. Il a fait des études postdoctorales en urbanisme à l'UAM (Azcapotzalco). Il est actuellement professeur à temps plein à l'UNAM, FES Acatlán.
