Jerome Township, an area slightly northwest of Columbus, was organized in 1821 and comprised the villages of Plain City, Jerome, New California and Arnold. A brief history of the township is given here, but the greater part of the book is made up of regimental histories and rosters from the American Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican War, Civil War, and Spanish-American War. More than forty Civil War regimental histories are given. The rosters include not only regular infantry and cavalry regiments, but also sharpshooters, colored troops, artillery, navy, and the "Squirrel Hunters," or minute-man militia. These rosters, listed by company and regiment, give name, date of enlistment, and date and cause of death if known. Numerous portraits, mostly military, are interspersed throughout the work. There is a list of soldiers buried in Jerome Township, and a list of soldiers who died in the army. An account of Kilpatrick's 1864 raid on Atlanta is also contained in this work.
