Continuing our series of translated regimentals, the subject covered on this occasion is a Prussian infantry regiment. Created during the army reorganisations of 1859/60, this Regiment was Thüringian, garrisoning Erfurt prior to the war. The 71st served with distinction at three engagements during the campaign - the night battle at Podol, the Battle of Königgrätz, and the Battle of Blumenau/Preßburg. The account provides details of the Regiment's participation at each of these, including some nice touches of personal detail. The depot battalion's role in the Battle of Langensalza against the Hanoverians, in which they fought hand-to-hand with enemy cavalry, is also recounted.
