J. H. Merle d'Aubigné (1794-1872) was a Swiss Protestant minister and historian who wrote extensively on the Protestant Reformation. He is best known for his five-volume work, "History of the Reformation in the Sixteenth Century," which is widely regarded as a masterpiece of historical scholarship. D'Aubigné was born in Switzerland and studied theology at the University of Geneva. He was ordained as a minister in the Swiss Reformed Church and went on to serve as a pastor in various churches throughout Switzerland and France. In addition to his pastoral work, d'Aubigné had a deep interest in history, particularly the history of the Reformation. He spent many years researching and writing his magnum opus, "History of the Reformation in the Sixteenth Century," which was first published in French in 1835. His works have been widely translated and continue to be influential in the fields of history and theology.
