One of the major sources of petroleum products are obtained from the sea.These petroleum products are transported using contemporary oil pipeline transportation systems. There are lots of procedures involved in the transportation of the oil or petroleum products from the middle sea region to the refining industries achieved effectively through the pipeline transportation. Pipelines are selected based on several criteria such as long life cycle, continual exposure in salt,sea water and sun rays, economical strategies such as speed of the pump, pressure, flow rate, temperature, flash point etc.If a pipeline failure occurs, the transport of the liquid may pose a serious hazard to people in the immediate neighborhood of the leakage site. Hence pressure and flow monitoring and control using PLC in such oil pipeline transportation system becomes highly important. The proposed research work aimed to develop an advanced control technology applied in monitoring and control of pressure andflow in oil pipelines and transferring pump units.
