She was deployed in North American waters during the American Revolutionary War and saw service as a convoy escort between England and Quebec. Later, as a lone cruiser off the North American coast, she captured several rebel privateers. She was put in Ordinary (mothballed) in 1783 at Chatham for 7 years.
