This is the true story of Edward, a dog who didn't let his physical differences keep him from making friends. After years of living on the streets of Brownsville, Texas, Edward finally finds his forever home and his new role-helping elementary school children learn about animal welfare as part of the Live Like a Dog PAWS Program. Promoting Animal Welfare in Schools (PAWS) is an educational program for elementary school children that encourages compassion for all living creatures. Live Like a Dog PAWS teaches children through educational books and hands-on learning activities how to become ambassadors for responsible pet ownership and kindness to all living creatures including people. It develops and strengthens the human-animal bond which can be a source of comfort for many children who have difficulties at home or at school. A portion of the proceeds from this book goes to Tracys Paws Rescue which rescues approximately 350 dogs a year from Texas kill shelters. The dogs are rehabilitated with love and good medical care. When the dogs are ready, homes are found with loving families all over the United States. Over the years, Tracy Voss has rescued over 6,000 dogs. She decided to write about some of her favorite rescue dogs to help broaden the awareness of the pet overpopulation problem in Texas, saying "Through education, we can teach our children to have compassion towards all living creatures."
