Trusses joints with the ribs between the braces have not been extensively examined under CIDECT or IIW auspices as welded members with standard shapes, because they are not recommended for widespread use. The IIW Recommendations for hollow section joints apply only to joints recognized as standard according to EN 1993-1-8. CIDECT guides as well as other valuable papers lack information about designing such joints. Such joints are characterized by the simplicity of their shapes and in common design situations their application is simply indispensable, e.g. in support and ridge joints, especially in fixed and assembly splices, where there is a need to strengthen the walls of the chord or support post, where there are technological difficulties during welding of members in overlapped parts of joints or to avoid laying groove weld between the braces.
