Now is all there is. It's all there ever was and all there ever will be. "The question, what would you do differently, is not only foolish but a costly indulgence. The useful question is, what will you do now?" There are trees that are thousands of years old. A Bowhead Whale has a lifespan of about 200 years. A May Fly has a life expectancy of 1-24 hours. Our sun will die in about 6 billion years. Humans have a lifespan of about 78 years. There is no spiritual or wondrous meaning to life and death. The moment we are born, we start to decay like everything else in the Universe. We are pretty much self-motivated and egocentric. We are concerned primarily with ourselves, our family, and our close friends. Some of us suffer from a case of self-importance, especially the intellectual elite, politicians, the wealthy, and celebrities. Most of us are not well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking, and many educational systems do not create a culture of critical thinkers. In some countries, this is by design by governments and politicians. In the United States, we have 329.5 million people, with 545 people making decisions primarily for their self-interest. We are a species that has separated ourselves from nature. We tend to think of ourselves as being unique and special. We sent a man to the moon, but a butterfly can find its way from North America to a specific location in Mexico, dogs can smell cancer before doctors can detect it. Are they any less unique and special? Since we left the hunter-gatherer lifestyle, we do not contribute to the magical balance of nature but choose to destroy it.
