The book is a reflection of the alternative systems of medicine in India. Since 2014, the Government of India initiated the Ministry of AYUSH. Here A stands for Ayurveda, Y stands for Yoga and Naturopathy, U stands for Unani, S stands for Siddha and H stands for Homoeopathy. These are the therapeutic systems that are clubbed under one ministry both at national and state level in India. The book deals with the utilization of the homoeopathic system of medicine in Odisha, one of the states in India. It deals with the history, development and evolution of the system of medicine in Odisha and as well as India. The book is based on the dissertation that I wrote for my Masters in Health Administration degree at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. By that time, Homoeopathy was under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare both at central and state level. It was operated through a directorate under the ministries at state and central level. It is written from the field work done in 1997 but by and large, the health seeking behavior of people has not changed much in the current context. Homoeopathy has become more relevant in the era of NCDs, new vector borne diseases.
