La abogada Erika Cisneros, hija de una inmigrante mexicana, es estadounidense de primera generación por parte de su madre. Se crió en una familia de trabajadores agrícolas temporales junto con otras familias indocumentadas, y fue así como pudo darse cuenta de la falta de abogados hispanos que podían ayudar a la comunidad de inmigrantes hispanohablantes. Luego de recibir su doctorado en Derecho de la Escuela de Leyes del Estado de Florida en 2008, comenzó a ejercer su profesión y se dedicó al complejo mundo de las leyes de inmigración. A medida que continuaba con su ejercicio, Erika pudo darse cuenta de que muchas de las personas que buscaban su ayuda eran víctimas de crímenes violentos y no sabían que podían solicitar una Visa Humanitaria que les otorga residencia permanente legal en el país. Estas personas vulnerables se convirtieron en el centro de atención de su profesión.
