At twenty-three, Robin Chapel isn't like you-if you believe her new boss. As the only black person at an ad agency in whiter-than-snow West Virginia, she has an uphill battle to learn a new career. Despite the support of a loving husband and no-nonsense mother; can Robin speak truth when called upon by her coworkers, family, and recent shooting victim Kenan Porter? Compared to marginalized people of America's past, Robin has it easy, but the road less traveled is ignored for a reason-conformity breeds weakness. From author and award-winning filmmaker Andy Silvers, this novel serves as a ripped-from-the-headlines story of perseverance, femininity, and self-discovery about a young woman with dreams to do more-but no clue where to start. Simply put, Hoop Drama is a novel about the lost being found; a remedy to those whose voices are still unheard. For ages 16+

Autorenporträt
Andy Silvers (Harvey Alter) is an author, filmmaker, and YouTuber who was born in Luga, Russia. His parents adopted him at the age of three and brought him to America where he required many surgeries to fix orthopedic issues including scoliosis, hip misalignment, and more. The Silvers also adopted four more kids from Russia in the early 2000s. Since his adoption, his father's work has moved him across the US including Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.Since youth, he's always loved writing; starting with a never-to-be-released set of children's stories called Terra Menara. He once handwrote a book about the benefits of bees. After transferring credits from community college, he graduated Suma Cum Laude from Liberty University's Zaki Gordon Center. In 2021, he released an original short film entitled "Snapshot" that tackles oft-ignored themes of adoption and disability. As a person with a missing left arm, these ideas were close to his heart. This film won a newly-invented award in the Mozi Motion Int. Film Festival called "Accessibility." Starting in 2020, Andy began writing novels and other books starting with Red Sprites and Blue Jets, a coming-of-age story for ages 8-12. Following this was a children's picture book called The Very Colorful Caterpillar inspired by the Eric Carle book. While wrapping up film school, he devised his first novella called Solomon Grando vs the Jupiter Witch; this book follows a vampire who must save the world during an epidemic outbreak while battling his greatest fear-witches. Hoop Drama represents his biggest undertaking being his first adult novel. This book was written while working a full-time job and creating YouTube videos about computers.
