Every night, when I retreat to the little space I have left, I feel the pain of my soul, which cries out for freedom, for dignity, for something that makes me believe that I can be more than I am. And then, the unexpected happened. Two spies from South Korea appeared in my life, fleeing from the government that controls everything they know. They came to me, not knowing that I could be their salvation, and I, not knowing that they could be mine. When I made the decision to open up to them, I was not only challenging a tyrannical system that destroys lives, I was challenging myself. My action was, in a way, a cry of resistance, not only against the regime, but against everything I had experienced up until now. However, what I didn't know was that this decision would change the course of my life in ways I could never have imagined. Among those men was Captain Seung-Jin Park, a man who, as strong and relentless as he was, saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself. He saw something beyond the broken woman I had forced myself to be. He saw a woman who could still fight for something greater, something that transcended fear, pain, and shame.
